Materials

For this tutorial, you will need:

  • Fabric scraps in a soft, flexible fabric such as viscose, poplin, or cotton
  • Matching thread
  • A sewing machine

Step 1: Preparing your fabric strips

After pressing your fabric scraps, mark and cut a strip 15 cm wide.

The goal is to have a strip measuring 140 cm in length, but you can absolutely piece it together in two sections.

If your strip is made of two pieces, place them right sides together along one short edge, stitch, then press the seam open.

Fold the strip in half lengthwise, right sides together, and pin along the long edge. Mark one end of the strip. This will form the pointed tip of your scarf.

To do this, mark a point 5 cm from the edge, connecting it to the folded edge of the strip.

Step 2 : assembling the Twilly

Stitch your strip in two steps, leaving a 5 cm opening in the middle of the long edge (as shown in the diagram).

Trim the excess fabric along the seams at each end, then trim the corners.

Turn the Twilly right side out, gently push out the corners, and press it flat.

Step 3: Finishing the Twilly

To finish, topstitch all around the scarf 2 mm from the edge. This stitching will close the opening and help the scarf hold its shape.

Congratulations, your Twilly Scarf is ready to wear!
